Choral Evensong

Choral Evensong is an opportunity to gather and spend time in prayer through listening and participating in music that is selected to bring us into deeper understanding of the mysteries of our faith.

Format

• Settings of the Canticles of Mary (Magnificat) and Simeon (Nunc Dimittis) are sung

• Led by choir and organ

• Suffrages (prayers) and Responses are sung, using call and response

• Congregation invited to join in silent meditation through prayers and canticles

• Sermon and readings from the Scriptures

• Approximately 55 minutes duration

Special Announcement:   Evensong with Bishop Paul Bird - 26th April 2026

 

On Sunday evening 26th April at 5pm Bishop Paul Bird CSsR will be our guest preacher at Evensong. Bishop Paul has been a good friend of our Cathedral over the past 12 years and we will have a small reception in the Synod Hall following the service to thank him for his constant friendship and to wish him well as he enjoys retirement. We hope there will be a good congregation from across the Diocese for that service.
